A Little About Me

IN JESUS NAME……I RUN

Welcome to My Running Page:
Hello, My little blog on the web is a place I hope to document and maybe provide some motivation to others who find themselves on a crazy running journey.  Do I live a perfect healthily lifestyle…..in the name of Captain Oreo, heck no.  But thru running I lead the best lifestyle, fitness-wise, that I can.  Someone once told me, If you’re going to eat bad, you might as well run good.

????????????????????????????????????

I fully believe that running has allowed me to learn more about myself and enjoy life in a much deeper richer way.  My running life has also inter-mixed with my spiritual life and my salvation in Christ Jesus.  During my journey, I have learned that being balanced is also about how you maintain your balance on life.  And how you spend time in a relationship with GOD.  I choose to live every day centered on my GOD and my running/prayer time with him.

Philippians 4:13 (NIV)  13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

In the beginning of my journey, I knew only that running made me feel better about myself…but now I have found that running is part of my life.  I have found that it challenges me, provides peace and a connection to life I did not find in any other pursuit.

My Short Story:
I grew up in Erie, Pa and now live near Virginia Beach.  I have a loving and adoring wife (Michele), two wonderful children (Jessica and Anthony) and the best Dog (Hanna) in the world.  I served my country in the US Air Force for 20 years, visiting a lot of countries where they love the U.S.A and somewhere they just plain hate us.  During my childhood years, I played all the “boy sports,” but was really drawn to football.  I loved playing pick up games with the neighborhood kids but found little success with High School Football.  Get this, I was kicked off the High School team for…….(are you ready) not being able to RUN.  Ha ha ha if Jeff Lane could see me now.

My Running History:
I’ve been consistently running since 2000.  Prior to this, I had a brief time in 1988 when I considered myself a runner.  During my first running period, I found that I enjoyed the training runs and eventually signed up to run a 10k.  This race turned into a hot mess, I knew nothing about pacing or racing.  I went out way to fast and crashed and burned during the finish.  After that…I was sitting out the couch, getting old and out of running until August 2000 and a remote tour to Thule, Greenland.  At that time I could not run 2 miles…and a marathon was something “other” people did.

Over the years I’ve logged over 12,000 miles in a good number of states, and overseas locations like Crete, Iraq, Sicily, Greenland, United Kingdom, and Qatar.

I hope you enjoy my site, and just maybe it will inspire you to go for a run.

OMG, I also grew up in Erie, well, the outskirts, about 30 miles away (North East). Now I live in Alaska, which is much, much more scenic, lol. Small world, eh? Cheers and happy running.

I don’t know if it was you that I saw on the road, but I saw the website on the back of a car as I was driving down to Georgia yesterday. I grew up near Virginia Beach and did a lot of running in Virginia. I always enjoy reading others running experiences. Good luck with your upcoming runs. Looking forward to reading more.

So glad I found your blog through Twitter! Love connecting with other runners who are also passionate about their faith. So many parallels between running and our journey with GOD! I wrote a devotional book for runners called “Embracing The Race: 40 Devotions for the Runner’s Soul”
So cool that you wrote a book! It’s hard work, almost like running a RACE! I got the kindle version of your book just now. Blessings to you, Brian. Keep on running the race with your eyes on JESUS. https://www.amazon.com/Embracing-Race-Devotions-Runners-Soul/dp/163357072X/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=

I have enjoyed reading your blog. I am relatively new to running….I ran my first 5K in May last year and my first 1/2 marathon in November. My daughter has been involved with the Girls on the Run and at age 10 told her Coach she wanted to run a 1/2 marathon. Her Coach took her under her wing. She finally turned 12 and will be able to run her first 1/2 sometime this year. Last April, my daughter took the first lap with her Coach in the 24 Hour Run for Cancer and went back later in the day to do another. She has wanted to do this Run since last year….and we are doing it. She has a friend who was diagnosed with Lukemia this past fall….the run will have a special meaning for her. I very much enjoyed Melissa’s story…..I had a TIA in November of 2015……I lost 95 pounds in a year…..I found my joy……my balance betweeen mind, body and spirit…..running is a beautiful gift. I know first hand that one run can change your life. Run Happy this April….I am sure we will pass on the trails…..our team is Run About It.
