Race Page – I’ve finished 100 Races, including, 16 Marathons, 25 Ultra-Marathons with two 100 milers, both under 24 hours and the Grand Canyon Rim2Rim2Rim.  I’ve run these races in 15 States, plus the United Kingdom, Canada, Iraq, Qatar and Greenland. More details on the bottom of the page.

2016 Running Events:

Sep ~ Hinson Lake 24 Hour Run, Rockingham, NC:  Victory…the white whale is DEAD!

Aug ~ Medoc Mountain Meltdown 50k plus, Medoc Mountain State Park Holister, NC:  At one I was in the top two of this race, but when the heat took me out and I could not answer the bell for the fourth lap…DNF #2

Jun ~ Bethel Moonlight Boogie 50 Miler, Ellerbe NC: DNF

May ~ Grand Canyon Rim2Rim2Rim, Grand Canyon, AZ:  Not a race, but an adventure run and without a doubt the hardest run of my life.

Apr ~ Virginia 24 Hour Run For Cancer, Hampton Roads, VA:  My 7th running of this great event and the third time my team “Run4Life” was won the team competition.

Apr ~ Tar Heel 10 Miler, Chapel Hill, NC:  A local favor among the rival schools and a race with an awesome tempo and hill challenge.

Apr ~ Mountain To Sea 50k, Falls Lake, NC:  A tough but fun trail race, with hills, roots, rocks and fun.

Mar ~ Tobacco Road Marathon, Cary NC: My 16th marathon and a race where I hit the wall hard, but a great race which is quickly becoming one of my favorites, and one I will run again.

Feb ~ Heart & Sole Half-Marathon, Greensboro, NC: A PR on a goal winter morning, you can read about the race here:

2015 Running Events:

Sep ~ Hinson Lake 24 Hour Run, Rockingham, NC:  It rained all day, and then I got dizzy…called it at 66 miles.

Jul ~ The March 50k, Raeford, NC: 32 miles of sand, hills and hills with sand, you can read about the race here:

Jun ~ Bethel Moonlight Boogie 50 Miler, Ellerbe NC: 50 miles in the heat, humidity, and dark country roads on central North Carolina, read about the race here.

Apr ~ Virginia 24 Hour For Cancer:  New mileage PR of 82.5 miles,  read about the race here.

Apr ~ Bunn Fun Run, Bunn, NC: My second fastest 5k, won my age group and came in overal 2nd.

Mar ~ the Graveyard 100, Outer Banks, NC: I ran this races solo and finished in 23 hours, full race report can be read here.

Jan ~ Knights of Columbus 10 Miler, Yorktown, Va:  Very cold/rainy start, turned into a 10 mile PR/PB for me.

2014 Running Events:

Dec ~ SeaShore Nature Trail 50k, Virginia Beach, Va: My fifth running of this even and another PR/PB cut nearly 17 minutes off my time.

Nov ~ JFK 50 Mile Endurance Run, Boonsboro Md:  Bucket list race and the granddaddy of all Ultra races, read the race report here.

Nov ~ Richmond Half Marathon, Richmond, Va:  Very cold start, fun run and more GoPro video (posted soon).

Oct ~ Wicked 10k, Virginia Beach, Va:  What a fun event…no PR but great times and the longest touchdown ever.  Read the race report and see the videos here.

Oct ~ Crawlin Crab Half Marathon, Hampton, Va:  My 13th half and a PR to boot.  Awesome race, my third time running it, check out my race report here.

Sept ~ Air Force Marathon, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio:  My 13th marathon, wheels fell of at mile 21 after going out a tab to fast and the hills to come. 4hr 08m

Jul ~ My 14th state, Peachtree Road Race 10k

Apr ~ Umstead 100 Mile Endurance Run, Raleigh, NC: My first 100 mile run, full race report can be read here.

Mar ~ Graveyard 100k, OBX, NC: My Third long run leading up to Umstead 100 Miler.  Ran this race with my Friend George N.  Full race report can be read here.

Mar ~ Ulkrops 10k, Richmond, Va: Third time running this race…ran low and slow with Paul S. and Michele fast walked.  Race Report here and here.

2013 Running Events:

Dec ~ SeaShore Nature Trail 50k, Virginia Beach, Va: The third time I’ve run this event and it betters better every time, a PB and a great day.  Race report can be seen here:

Nov ~ Twin River Turkey Day 5k, New Bern, NC:

Sept ~ 12 Hour Adventure Run, Prince William Forest, Triangle, VA: 
 A challenging combination of single track trails, fire roads and hills.  When you weren’t running on the well groomed trails you were challenged by climbing over rocky passes, tree roots, quad pounding descents and the ever popular suspension bridge crossing.  For more on this trail race click here:

Aug ~ Medoc Mountain Meltdown 50k plus, Medoc Mountain State Park Holister, NC: 
 A Fat A_ _ event, this 50k (34.4 miles) had the billing as being nearly to tough to tame, well I took my shot at it…you can read about the battle in the full race report which can be read here.

May ~ Cleveland Marathon, Cleveland, Ohio:  My plan going into this marathon (my 10th) was to take a stab at a sub four hour marathon…it all went well until…  Race report can be read here.

April ~ 24 Hour Run for Cancer, Hampton, VA:  At this years Virginia 24 Hour Run for Cancer I fielded a team.  The last 3 years I ran this event solo and just for “Fun.”  This year we were going for the win.  All the details can be read here.

April ~ Monument Ave 10K, Richmond, VA:  My second running of this large scale 10k, 40,000 runners/walkers and the PR streak continued.  I turned this 10k in 46m 21s official chip time!  A PR/PB by 21 seconds and a full 2m 28s faster then last year!  Michele also power walked this event to a blistering PR 1h 19m 28s.  The race report can be read here.

March ~ Shamrock Marathon, Virginia Beach, VA:  
My third running of this marathon and another cold/windy race at the beach front.  The good of it all…a PR!  Read about my battles with the conditions and success against the clock here.

Feb ~ Virginia is For Lovers 14K, Virginia Beach, VA:  Michele and I ran this race together, she fast walked it and I ran.  Tough day as there was a cold wind blowing, I finished in 1h 10m 06 seconds and Michele came home in 1h 53m 00s a full race report can be seen here.

Jan-Feb ~ Tidewater Striders Distance Series, Virginia Beach, VA:  2 races at the Dismal Swamp State Park, added miles to each race to meet my marathon training plan; 20k = 15.4 miles, and the 30k = 20.58 miles

2012 Running Events:
24 Nov ~ Turkey Trot 10K, Erie PA:  This race was all about “The Force” and in the spirt of Yoda, I went out fast and held on for a PR 46m 42s  Might be the best race t-shirt ever

8 Oct ~ Crawlin Crab half marathon Hampton VA:  Week 10 on the road to MCM I needed a 20 mile run…a friend and I ran 7 miles before this event then seamlessly ran the race, finished in 1h 59m 15s

28-29 Sept ~ Colonial 200 Relay Charlottesville to Jamestown, VA:  A team of five and I took on this 206.83 mile, 36 leg,  overnight running challenge.  Our team finished in 35h 15ms.  What a great adventure.

20 May ~ Run for the Dream Half Marathon, Williamsburg, VA: Needing a race and a 20 mile run…2 friends and I ran 7 miles before this event then seamlessly ran the race, finished in 1h 57m 58s

21 – 22 Apr  ~ 24-Hour Ultra Marathon,  Sandy Bottom Nature Park, Newport News, VA: 5 friends and I ran this event…my 3rd time, this year I ran 75 miles in 20.5 clock hours/17.5 running hours

14 Apr  ~ Saint Charles Running Festival 10 Miler, Waldorf, MD:  Michele ran the 5k and I ran the 10 miler over some hilly roads, scored a PB 1h 23m 49s

31 Mar ~ Ukrop’s Monument Ave 10k, Richmond, VA:  Michele and I both ran this monster event, over 40,000 runners, I finished with a 10 year PB 48m 49s

18 Mar ~ Shamrock Marathon, Virginia Beach, VA: My 6th and Susan’s 1st marathon, we finished in 4h 55m, “Mission Complete.”

Jan-Feb ~ Tidewater Striders Distance Series, Virginia Beach, VA:  3 races at First Landing State Park, ran with Susan, we stretched each race to meet our marathon plan; 20k = 16 miles, 25k = 20 miles and the 30k = 22 miles

1 Jan ~ Sentara New Year’s Day 5K, Hampton Roads, VA:  Susan C has been running this race since her cancer recovery…this year Michele and I wanted to share it with her.  Michele finished in 42m & I  in 24m 16s

2011 Running Events:
17 Dec ~ Sea Shore Nature Trail 50k, First Landing State Park, Virginia Beach, VA:  First 50k, I was struggling at 20 miles…was ready to give up.  Not wanting a DNF, I headed back out on the course and powered walked the next 5 miles and managed to run/walk the closing 5 to finish in 6h 49m and was very humbled.

24 Nov ~ USMC Toys for Tots Turkey Day 5k/10k, Newport News,VA: Great run with friends.  Michele walked/ran the 5k finishing in 39m 2s…and I ran the 10k, some unwanted hills slowed me to a 52m finish

12 Nov ~ Richmond Marathon, Richmond, VA:  5th Marathon and second on my birthday, 4h 47m….on my 47 birthday!

15 Oct ~ Jamestown to Yorktown Training Run (20 miles):  Running pal Joshua W. had a great idea, “let’s run from Jamestown settlement to the Yorktown battlefields” completed in 3h 43m

11 June ~ XTERRA Half Marathon, Richmond, VA:  An opportunity to experience “legendary” root slipping, mud hopping, tree ducking, river crossing, hill climbing, dirt on your shirt/shoes and sweat in your eye trail run, finished in 2h 28m 09s

28 ~ May  Chick-Fil-A 5k, Newport News, VA: Michele rocked her goal, finished in a strong 43m 29s…..I finished in 24m 09s

22 ~ May  Run for the Dream Half Marathon, Williamsburg, VA:  I ran in the inaugural “Run For The Dream Half Marathon” to support Susan in her first Half, 2h 23m later we made her goal of finishing

2010 Running Goals/Events:
30 Oct ~ Blue Moon Wicked 10K, Virginia Beach, VA:  Ran dressed in full Cleveland Browns uniform, two goals….not allow any stoolers fans to pass me and to not drop the football I was carrying.  I conquered both, finished in 1h 0m 32s

3 July ~ Yorktown Independence Day 8K, Yorktown, VA:  Ran to pace Josh W. to his 1st 8k finish.  Got a kick out of seeing another runner reach his goals

17 – 18 Apr ~ 24-Hour Ultra Marathon, Sandy Bottom Nature Park, Newport News, VA: 2nd time running this event, and you have not lived “a runners life” until you’ve run an Ultra….will not be my last!  Completed 50 miles in 12.5 hours
21 March ~ Shamrock Marathon, Virginia Beach, VA:  4th Marathon, completed in 4h 53m

Jan-Feb ~ Tidewater Striders Distance Series, Virginia Beach, VA:  3 races at Fort Story, 20k, 25k (wx canx) and the 30k

2009 Running Goals/Events:
26 Nov ~ Erie Runners Club Turkey Trot 10K, Erie Pa:  Ran this race with 4 hrs of sleep after driving up from VA Beach to spend Thanksgiving with family, finished in 51m 54s

15 – 16 Apr ~ 24-Hour Ultra Marathon, Sandy Bottom Nature Park, Newport News, VA:  First Ultra, ran 52.5 miles in 14 hours and a Ghost (encounter) story…race report posted here
21 March ~ US National Marathon, Washington D.C.:  3rd Marathon, 4h 43m running around our nation’s capital!

14 Feb ~ BI-LO Half Marathon, Myrtle Beach, SC:  Great Valentines weekend w/Michele and friends Kendra & Jeff, finished in 1h 56m 7s

Jan-Feb ~ Tidewater Striders Distance Series, Virginia Beach, VA:  3 races at Fort Story, 20k time 1h 58m 40s, 25k time 2h 35m and the 30k I stretched into a 20 miler
2008 Running Goals/Events:  After my deployment/decision to retire from the Air Force, running went to the back burner…Sept 2008 I laced my shoes back up and returned to logging miles

2007 Running Goals/Events:
2 Nov ~ USAF Al-Udied Half Marathon, Al Udied Air Base, Qatar: Ran with 3 hrs sleep, it was painful, but finished in 2h 10m

Marine Corp Marathon:  After running all summer…getting in solid shape w/3 long runs over 20 miles…the Air Force wanted me to deploy

28 July ~ Red River 10k, Cold Spring, MN:  Michele ran the 5k and I ran the 10k in 48m 25s

14 Apr ~ Dismal Swamp Half Marathon, Chesapeake, VA:  Sometimes you just know it’s going to be your day, never figured a PB 1h 44m 11s

17 Mar ~ Shamrock Half Marathon, Virginia Beach, VA:  After a lazy ‘06  my first goal was getting back to distance running, finished in 1h 51m 51s

2006 Running Goals/Events:  None…I got lazy!

2005 Running/Events:
12 Nov, Suntrust Marathon, Richmond VA:  HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME & my 2nd Marathon.  How many times are you able to run a marathon on your birthday?  A new PB 4h 10m 39m

29 Aug, Grimsthorpe Castle 10k, Bourne Town UK 
My last race in the UK run on August Bank holiday Monday, very pretty course with a nice hill climb, I came in at 51m 31s.   

30 May, Brandon Forest Half Marathon, Brandon UK:  Surprised/shocked that at mile four I was thinking of a DNF…pressed on, fought my way home at 1h 49m 53s

25 May, AF 1.5 mile fitness test (1.5 miles):  New PB but failed to break 10m, But I MAX’d out 50 sit ups/50 push ups…97.25 out of a possible 100.  Not bad for a 40 yr old

18 May, 5 Miler, Great Yarmouth, UK:  5 mile Time-Trial (TT) to build and gauge speed and fitness, crossed the line at 37m 23s

24 Apr, Shakespeare Marathon, Stratford-upon-Avon, UK:  MY FIRST MARATHON, You’ll never forget your first kiss, car, & you’ll never forget your first marathon, finished in 4h 13m 59s I’m a marathoner!

13 Mar, Flora Adidas London Half Marathon, Silverstone race track, UK:  A flat fast course, went out to fast and paid for it, finished at 1h 50m 28s

27 Feb, Bury 20 Miler, Bury St Edmonds, UK:  First really long run, a training standard/landmark on the way to the 26.2 mile pinnacle, finished at 3h 15m 30s

20 Feb, Multi-Terrain 15k, Wellingborough, UK:  First Cross Country race finished with mud up to my ankles and the clock ticked 1h 13m 01s

06 Feb, Asics Half Marathon, Watford UK:  First Half, wanted to finish under 2 hrs, came home at 1h 55m 01s

22 Jan, RAF Mildenhall 5k:  Finished in 22m 01s & took home 3rd place, my first medal

2004 Running Goals/Events:
31 Dec New Years Eve 10K, Ely, Norwich UK:  A combination of a poor start and “the hill” got to me, finished at 49 m 07s

2000 – 2003 Running/Events:
Aug 01 Run Baby Run 10K, White Bear Lake, MN:  On a rainy Saturday morning I was able to run my fastest 10k to date: 48m 21s

May 01 6th Annual Menudo Run 10K, Las Vegas, NV:  A  race in “Sin City,” went out to fast and had to hold on to finish in 50m 26s
